Timpanis were for Set The Controls. Apparently while Billy was playing drums, Jeff was waving his hands around an instrument (I don't know what it was called) which produced strange noises. Then, they returned to their positions where they picked up birdcalls and played them for 30 seconds. Weird. And very cool.

Why are some people so freaked out that he took his shirt off? Isn't it a good thing that he felt comfortable and not self-conscious?
From the description I've heard, I think maybe the instrument Jeff was playing was a theramin.
Sounds like they're having a lot of fun at these shows. I wish we could've had timpanis and theramin and bird whistles in Hammond.
