The reason I'm freaking out so much is that I've just now come to terms with all the shit that Billy and co. have stacked since they got "back together."
I never questioned anything they did, and I was in total denial of everything, like, hell, I pretended to like Zeitgeist.
I now admit to myself that it was a big dissapointment. It had some ok songs, and some great songs, but it just was not worth looking forward to for so long.
Billy has sold out big time.

I don't care about getting the song or not. It's the principle. Guitar Hero is an entity of evil. It degrades the value of music. The Smashing Pumpkins chose to give their song to this game, to be heard first by it's fans before us. People that have never even heard of the Smashing Pumpkins. and i do agree SamC that a lot of the people who play GH will probably be all "Who the fuck is Billy Corgan?" or more likely "Who the fuck is the dude in the dress?" the main generation of punk asses who play the game don't know the SP for the most part. they just know the rap and pop shit they are mainly subjected too.
and i know it blows and i'm sure many of us are not totally down with everything we have been getting with the new SP. but all we can do is wait now and see what happens.
i know i personally won't be swearing off the SP over this although i'm truly disappointed by the way GLOW is being released. it does feel like We the Fans are getting the shaft. so i guess if anything at least we have the past and what the old pumpkins meant to us. we can always hold onto that even if some of us want to say fuck the rest.

The way I see it, GLOW is a song as significant as Drown, Glynis, Superchrist, etc. It is a song made entirely its own, for its own purpose. It doesn't have to follow the same guidelines or usual expectations that an "album" would, because it is designed to be free from the very beginning.

It's just as much a song and musical effort as anything Billy has created, because that's the kind of musician he is. The medium through which the song is put through is not important compared to the song itself. Sure, I'd like to hear the song before others, because of how big of a fan I am, but apart from that, I don't really care about who hears it, as long as I get to eventually. If more are exposed to such glorious tunes, what's the issue?

I don't think GLOW is even the "direction" that the Pumpkins are even moving toward either. It's sort of a track for a contribution, and the idea behind the contribution could be a number of things. It could be one, for publicity sake; two, the sake of having fun (sort of like karaoke); three, mixing old sounds with new ideas; four... Whatever you think, really.

Anyway, the way I feel, it's all about the music, because in the end, THAT'S what matters. Does anyone care that you can get a pair of Nirvana Converse shoes? What about the Led Zeppelin lunch box? Or the Pink Floyd coffee mug?

Why are these bands allowed to "sell out," and yet retain such high levels of musicianship and loyal fans? Because in the end, it's all about the music. The rest is trivial in comparison.

There are gazillions of bands that are at the same level or higher level of greatness that donate their songs to the GH series. It didn't degrade the value for me when I discovered a song by a band that I'd heard about but hadn't heard before, The Butthole Surfers.

Plus, Guitar Hero is fun. My younger God-brother owns GH 2 and 3, and it's a ball to play.

He's been learning classical style guitar for about four years prior to owning the games, also. Dunno if that's relevant, but yeah, you can take or leave that statement.
