A very good point!
Its not like a 4 piece band who can get away with complex lead guitar part complimenting a Rhythm guitar on stage as well as a studio recording.
Actually, during Green Day's American Idiot tour, they enlisted the help of additional musicians. And man, was the show phenomenal!
Sometimes I, too, wonder about the Pumpkins' ability to translate their most grandiose studio tracks (say, for example, "Tonight Tonight"

into the live spectrum. In that, I think Lisa (and Mike Garson before her) has been one of the most valuable players on the SP team. Sure, synthetic strings coming from a b8 or other keyboards isn't quite the same as a 30-piece orchestra, but I think she's holding up her end of some classic epics very well!
