DC on November 11th 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
To quote Incubus, "Meet me here...on November 11th, come alone."

I will be at the DC show on 11/11. I know slunkdross and muzzleofearth are going to be there too. I want to organize a thepumpkins.net group meeting for whoever will be there (even if it's just you and me slunk and muzzle...haha...)

Problem is I have only been to DC once and that was years ago. I don't know the area at all. What is close to the venue that would be a good place to meet up and eat before the show?

Also, I need to know what would be a decent and not too expensive hotel, ideally within walking distance of the venue...anybody got suggestions?

GC, I don't know dc well either. I am coming from baltimore area. You can probably check DAR website to see what hotels and resturants are around the area. I think the venue is real close to the white house, you could always hit up george w for a cot and a hot.

Not sure which thread this was on but someone mentioned booking a place in fairfax. Fairfax is 20-30 minutes from DAR. I would check mapquest or google maps for a closer place to stay.
The map for the area has alot of places to eat, drink and oh yeah see the monument, lincoln memorial, white house. You could probably stay at the college 5 blocks away...
There is a lot of places around the venue to check out.

I am not sure of what time we can get down there, I am over an hour from there without traffic and the person going with me just had a baby 4 days ago.

If we can get down there early, we might just check out a local bar for some drinks and apps before the show.

My wife is going wednesday night, so I will be in rare form tuesday.

night with the wife and 3 kids... $50
night with the wife and no kids...$100
night away from my wife and 3 kids, with my friend, at a smashing pumpkins show ....priceless

Kinda in the same vein as this question- I to will be going to the 11/11 show and was looking for a DC as native to tell me a good cheeeeeaaaaap place to stay outside of DC. I'm looking to stay outside of the city but near a metro stop so i can just take the train in. Any ideas?

nice lol...

yeah i think im the one who mentioned staying in fairfax. but my wife has an uncle who lives there so we can stay for free plus we are going up on monday to spend the night. and i know there is a couple of metro stops not too far away so we will just take that and ride in. im looking at the restaurant list now but there are so many... i guess ill have to look at the map. if the DAR hall is near the main outside mall area (washington monument, smithsonian, etc.) then we could all just meet outside on the lawn somewhere or something like that and go from there.

Sounds like a decent plan to me. I ordered a triptik from Triple A that should be here by week's end...that should have plenty of info about hotels. We will be driving up the day of the show...it's about an 8 hour haul for us, but we're leaving first thing in the morning so we should be there by 4 or 5:00.

cool. i see that the DAR constitution hall is located between the washington monument and the white house so we def could just meet somewhere around the outside mall on the lawn or outside one of the buildings (smithsonian, monument, etc.)

Those familiar with DC... 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
This is my plan and I want to know how likely you think it is to work - or am I'm setting myself for a mess:

I'm getting a hotel (cheapest price I could find) that has a 24hr shuttle to the Cheverly station. I'm going to be taking the train in to the concert. So to get home I will have to get from the theater to McPherson Sq station. The last train leaves that station at 11:53.

For anyone familiar with the area is that doable? Do you think the show is likely to be over in time?

Alternatively how hard is parking?

i wouldnt suggest parking at all. definitely try to take the metro. they have shuttles/trains that run at most all times. im not sure about the exact times but you may have to wait like 20 or so minutes between trains.

That's why I wanted to be able to walk there from my hotel. Also, my wife pointed out yesterday that the 11th is Veterans' Day....think that'll have any affect on the hotel situation?

veteran's day festivites will be at arlington national cemetery, which is about 2 miles from DAR. Not sure how this will effect things in the evening, but I agree with taking the metro into the city. It might be less traffic if government workers are off, the ceremony might be finished early and the area clear out earlier than it would if there was work that day. you know 5-7 commuter traffic. I have not decided what to do yet. I might hit the metro at the greenbelt station and come in from there.
