mark -

I have high expectations for everything Billy does. Just because it may not sound like the old Pumpkins or it may not sound like I thought it would or should, won't mean that Billy failed to meet my expectations, I'll just have to give it a fair listen with an open mind!

Yeah, I've wondered what the new Pumpkin album would sound like. I think the last thing they need is a new "radically different" approach to their music like with what they did with Adore, and I'm looking forward to a more refined cross between Machina and Machina II. Get what I'm saying?

I think it's best to approach an album with no expectations. If you have high expectations, you make it easier for yourself to become disappointed.

They could take it in so many directions, that I have no idea what to expect at this point.

i half wish that it would just be billy and jimmy, and do an album like the White Stripes...
both are more than able to deliver a good song as just the two.

but if i had to speculate, I'd say an acoustic or Gish-like album is coming.

I think that the new Pumpkins album, but yes having their usual intruments, will be reminiscent of Billy's glorious solo album! But as McMurderson said, it's best to have no expectations. I can't help but wonder anyhow...

I think its natural to wonder, especially since most of us have such a deep history with SP. Am I curious, yes. But do i have any expectations, no, not really. I think I'll just be overly glad to see a new album with the words "Smashing Pumpkins" on it then take it from there.

pop tart i love your pic on the band as your emblem.[i guess your cool, yeah i think that] i agree for the most part what has been posted on this thread but again billy is so freaking blessed vocally, that i hope and desire for it to make them back in the main stream but regardless he will be in the rock hall of fame and he made his impact on us and the rest of mankind..to say we love him is to say we are his fans to say we cant get enough says we love his music, which says billy and the way he writes the lyrics composes like the way he composed and did the string arrangments for disarm is spectacular.,is yes astonshing.........

I think that casting them as a 'type' of band really undermines what they are capable of. Other albums may not have suited the kind of band that you like to think of them as, but I think it is their diversity that makes them the band that they are.

Yeah, the Pumpkins have done it all...grunge, metal, electronica, even folk/country (!) which is not something I would normally enjoy, but songs like "Lily (My One And Only)" and "My Blue Heaven" have completely won me over!

The only thing I haven't yet is Billy Corgan rapping...Ha! Could you imagine such a thing? I shudder at the thought...
