All Things Change - Pretty and relaxing. A bit simplistic in the lyrics.

Mina Loy (M.O.H.) - People who were looking for rock songs would probably gravitate more towards this. Nice opening riff. Good beat. Good lyrics.

The CameraEye - This is my favorite song on the album. Great music and lyrics.

ToLoveSomebody - I didn't think this was a good cover. Sorry Billy.

A100 - Good sounding song, but the lyrics are a bit empty.

DIA - I really like this song. The violin, vocals and ambience of this song really shine. Even though Jimmy is playing a simple beat, I can still recognize him.

Now (And Then) - This is a nice slow song. It sounds like it could be a Machina song.

I'm Ready - My least favorite song on the album. Lyrics aren't too bad though. Except the "I'm ready, ready ready!"

Walking Shade - I think this song defines the sound of the whole album, but it's not one of my favorites.

Sorrows (In Blue) - I don't think this song gets enough credit. I like it.

Pretty, Pretty Star It certainly is pretty. Pretty good all around.

Strayz I love the silence and introspection of this song, but it's still a bit boring.



Unfortunately, TheFutureEmbrace is one of my least favorite release from Billy. The songs aren't bad, but I have trouble listening to the album all the way through.

Well, this album is not a favorite of mine ....out of Billy's work. But it sounds very experimental, I guess he was just trying something new. Mina Loy is my only favorite song on there.

I am probably alone when I say this, but I think TheFutureEmbrace is just as good as any Pumpkins album!!! It's so different, yet it's beautiful. I love all the industrial sounding crap. I LOVE IT. People really seem to beat down on that. The Walking Shade is my all time favorite song, by any artist. It tops the Pumpkins stuff to me. I just love that song SOOO much. It's my ringtone lol. Billy and his paid backup band may have gone crazy with keyboard effects, but I think that's what distinguishes the album.

i think it's because he talks really fast in some parts, and it bugged me or something,,, idk

but after listening to it a lot more, i like it

It took me a while to warm up to it, but I liked Mina Loy instantly. I also really like Pretty Pretty Star. . it's so calm and melodic. I have to say that I thought Billy's live 9:30 club performance was better than the actual album - he just put so much more into it that night than what can possibly be expressed on a CD.
McMurderson - I actually really liked the To Love Somebody cover . . not his best. . but I like the personal style he added to it.

All things Change : good song, but by time he gets to "we can change the world", I'm bored by the song...the atmospheric noise(guitar?synthe?) is just too monotone
Mina Loy (M.O.h.) : a song i should like, but don't. the lyrics are nice, the tune is likable, and it isn't as monotone as ATC...i guess it just never caught me
CameraEye : good, i like it, but it can bore me. but I'd still say one of the bests
ToLoveSomebody : ah! i don't like it as a cover, and if it was original, i think that i would barely tolerate it
Now (and Then) : Good Song! lyrics are a little cheesy to me, but i like it a lot. the atmospheric fuzz Billy seems to love so much isn't as prevalent on the song, so it doesn't sound like a dull roar
A100 : best song (along with DIA) on the album, and the first leaked from the album. i was glad when i heard this song because it gave me a little hope for TFE.
DIA : Great Song, very conventional song in my view. i could easily have seen Zwan doing this track. the only bad thing is that Jimmy didn't have as free range apparently to do what he could. it feels like this song originally used a drum machine, and jimmy came in and played it live...like Jimmy is imitating a drum machine
I'm Ready : again, like ATC, i like it, but it is a bit dull and monotone.
Walking Shade : i really like the song, and probably one of the better songs live, but has the dull roar sound that i hate.
Sorrows(in Blue) : slow, like Now, and i really like it. i really enjoy driving in the rain with songs like this one.
Pretty,Pretty Star : very light hearted song, unlike most of the rest so it holds a special spot in that aspect.
[B] Strayz[/b] come on, Billy. what is that 'z'! anyway this song like Sorrows, is a good rainy day song, and Billy would probably shut up a whole arena if he played this acoustic. beautiful song

TILT : this is a good song, but like Let Me and Crash Car this is an anti-album song. it really doesn't fit anywhere on the album, so i think it would have been good as a single or E.P. , but not on TFE

my humble opinions

I was honestly disappointed with it Its not a bad album, as a whole, but its not something I even listen to regularly like I still do with all the Pumpkins' albums.
I liked All Things Change and Walking Shade the best. The cover was alright but nothing spectacular. CameraEye has always kind of bugged me (sorry to those who like it).
Its not a bad album but just a little mediocre IMO.

And that's pretty much what I think.

I was reeeally caught up with anticipation for TheFutureEmbrace, especially since it was released on my birthday, June 21. As soon as I could, I bought for myself as a present. On the whole, I was somewhat disappointed, because I was hoping for Billy to return to some of the dark, pained subject matter that was part of the Smashing Pumpkins. I forgive him, though. After all, he does earn some respite, and he did say that above all else, it was his album about him, and on those terms, I can welcome that.

I did like some of the songs enough to listen to on a regular basis: like Mina Loy, DIA, and Walking Shade--including ToLoveSomebody, which I really enjoyed for the weighed-down, dreamy feeling, and the opportunity to hear Robert Smith's vocals. I didn't really like any of the slow songs, though, or Pretty Pretty STAR--I thought it was too repetetive and a bit campy-sounding.

If I had encountered this album without ever knowing about The Smashing Pumpkins beforehand, I probably wouldn't have all that intrigued by it. But Billy has me smitten enough so that I'll eat up anything he throws at us. It's nice to feel that way.

I just read the Pitchfork review, and I realize that my previous post kind of echoes it a little--which is probably because I read that same review months and months ago, and my subconscious would rather rip off memory fragments than allow for fresh material. But I guess that happens with everything, to some degree. Oh, that darn elusive subconscious...
