The boss OS-2 is cool. It gives you overdrive and distortion in one pedal and you can blend the two as well. I went to Guitar Center to pick up a big muff but they were sold out. The guy recommended this pedal and I was very pleased witht the results.

I rely on my handy ol Crybaby wah. It really adds a nice boost to solo's and tends to add a lot of expressiveness, as well.
Other than that, i think a good delay is essential in making a guitar sound "otherworldly"

My Line-up:
Digitech Bad Monkey- one of the few good digitech pedals, nothing fancy just tubey goodness.

EHX Small Clone- Nirvana, can make some sweet feedback sounds too.

EHX Big Muff- Giggity, perfect for Pumpkins.

My Favorite:
MXR Blue Box, takes the guitar fuzzes it up and duplicates it 2 octaves down. Its just a crazy, wacky pedal, even with the octave totally turned off, it makes for a sexy fuzz.

Gotta say the most fun i've had is with my uncle's Line 6 Delay Modeller(The Green Machine), Roland Bee Baa Fuzz and 70's or 80's Ibanez Phaser Wah-like pedal.
My gear consists of a Jimmy-boy Dunlop Crybaby Wah, Boss DD-3 Delay, Boss GE-7 EQ, Marshall Chorus pedal (want to upgrade to EH Small Clone, but still a versatile pedal), and Danelectro FAB Distortion which is the best $40AUD i've ever spent to be honest
Would love many an effect though, especially a Mutronics Mutator for those awesome Radiohead-ish solos, but dream i do ...

The pedals I currently own and love are:

Boss GE7 - graphic equalizer
Digitech DF7 - distortion modeller (pretty decent distortions)
EHX Big Muff Pi - the one and only
I also have a Digitech RP200 and a DOD Fx22 Vibro Thang but don't use them much.
I'm going to get a Dunlop 535Q wah (which in my opinion is the best and most versatil wah), and the MXR Dyna-Comp. I would also love to try the Boss MT-2 Whizzer Mod which can be found on ebay.
As far as effects go.. EHX Small Clone and Boss DD-3 Delay would be a good buy.

Gotta love pedals. I have a ton of 'em. I mostly used to use a Zvex Fuzz Factory to boost my solos and leads. I have a Digitech Whammy and a RMC Wizard wah which are always the first to start my board. Then it goes to the FF. But after I got my new amp head I got a couple racks like a G-Major and a equalizer but I still use a few others from time to time.
