You can't call Nirvana over-rated just because you don't find their style appealing. To huge Nirvana fans like me, Kurt's lyrics and the band's music has a unique feel to it. It's angsty, but not too angsty. Its punky, but not too punky. Its poppy but not too poppy. And most of all, just by listening to a couple songs, the music makes me feel in touch with the band on this weird, personal wave length. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Pumpkins fan, but I think that that's where the Pumpkins and Nirvana aren't equal at; that personal connection. Not to me anyway. Everyone has lived a different life and experienced different things. Nirvana's music just connects with me more based on the life I've lived.

no, most people do find their style very appealing. But Kurt turned into an effing martyr of sorts for grunge and rock and roll in general after he killed himself. I mean, after he died, everybody was like "ZOMG greatest band of all time." They were good, but certainly did not deserve the title of best band ever (which i believe to be very subjective). So most people like the band and what they did, but there's no need for the excess amount of hype that follows the Nirvana name.

I can see how people would want to distance themselves from Nirvana, due to all of the other people who attatch themselves to the "legend" of Kurt Cobain and only own Nevermind. But to deprive them of the respect they deserve as artists based solely on that case is very demining to te band's image as artists. I can see what you mean Aleinbob, but I don't think you're giving them enough credit. Anyway...We got a bit off topic didn't we?

Those guys (and a girl playing the same instrument as D'arcy) get a lot of comparisons to SP. And surprise, surprise, they have the same initials...
I have nothing against them, but I don't think they hold a candle to SP.

yeah, i bought their ep and album before i heard all these comparisons... it's weird, i just randomly heard their song "well thought out twinkles" one day, and thought, wow! hehe... i think i just loved the fuzzy guitars, cos you don't hear that a lot lately... and his voice is kinda cool too, anyways... i found another one of their songs ,(liked it too), and thought i'd buy the album, so i found both carnavas and the pikul ep on amazon and pre-ordered ages ago... then i started seeing all these reviews and stuff when it was getting closer to the release date... nearly all of them said they sound like earlier pumpkins stuff! i didn't see it, but i can sorta see why now... obviously the albums are no way as good as the pumpkins imo either, but i still really like them... compared to most guitar bands nowadays, i definitely think they rate high above a lot of them if not all!

Well joy division is one of the groups that inspires Billy - so he carries the torch...

i like this one... not the greatest of all time, i'm sure, but it's the prettiest recent album cover i've seen lately, at least imo... (quite a good album too)...
I like it, glenn!

That guy is really on fire.
No title, not even the bands name anywhere on the outside of the cover. And yet, one of the best-selling rock albums of all time.
Epitome of glam.
This guy is also really on fire.
Not good in itself, but creepy in that the central three, the ones who are touched by the flames, were the members who soonafter died in a plane crash.
But of course.

Nirvana's music just connects with me more based on the life I've lived.
i know it's off topic to rehash this area, but i feel the need to. i understand that you're a big SP fan, otherwise you wouldn't be here in the first place. and, in your defense, you did state that this was just your opinion. but nonetheless, you've clearly defined that to you, this is a difference between SP and ye old anavrin. but surely you must realize that this difference only exists for you, and x number of like-minded people, while at the same time, just as many people would say the opposite. i think a person MUST identify and connect with a band in order to be a fan. if you didn't connect in some way, even if it's instrumental music, you couldn't get into it.
personally, i felt that connection with nirvana a long time ago, but sort of lost it when i found the pumpkins. kurt suddenly seemed like a stranger to me once i heard billy singing about things that perfectly related how i felt.
i guess what i'm saying, and perhaps i'm wrong, is that it's unfair for you to call that a difference between the two bands. it may be a difference for you, but that doesn't make it a solid truth. and as an aside, i guess at some point i realized i couldn't relate to a guy who'd abandon his child forever. i'm honestly not opposed to suicide, except in a situation like that where you have a child. your child should ALWAYS be seen as more important than yourself.
ps-sorry this was so long.
