Ah, meh, I don't WANT to write about my life... I think that's what is more "emo." I make up characters and write about them, not that everything I write is a ballad. But I see no point in writing stuff about MY life... Nothing to write about. I write about the news, and the government, and about spirituality (which I guess refers to me). If I wrote about me, I would be writing stuff that was REALLY REALLY shallow. On another side note, I miss the days when being a goth meant that you were scary. To people besides old people. I like the goth aesthetic, I really do, a lot. But it's being way too overdone.

I guess in my other post i made it sound like you should write about stuff that happens directly to you, but what i mean to get at is write about stuff that pertains to you. Their is nothing wrong with 'emo' music. There are just some really lame emo bands that happen to write catchy tunes and they are popular now. There are plenty of awesome bands that are classified as 'emo' that have very little in common with what you people precieve as 'emo'.

Besides I'll take Fallout boy any day over Simple plan. So I'm happy that these bands are popular.


Anyway, I'm just pointing out that you sound a lot like the pumpkins haters back in the day when the pumpkins were on top of the world.

Here's a list of grievances I'd like to get off my chest...

1. There are no more goth kids at my school, just emos.
2. goth doesn't mean metal. nobody seems to recognize this anymore.
3. goths should not be feared. i know a lot of people who have an irrational fear of or hatred for goths.
4. nobody can wear black or express sadness anymore without being labeled emo.
5. people think my glasses are emo.
6. emos are bringing dishonor to punk by popularizing poorly written (in my opinion) pop-punk trash.

and perhaps most importantly

7. American moral panic against goths occurred after columbine. Those psychopaths do NOT represent goth culture!

dudehitscar, I don't want to get off on the wrong note with you, I actually LOVE a lot of emo stuff! I just don't want people to classify me as emo. I just don't think emo will be around much longer and I think it's just a phase the media is going through.

One of my favorite bands is My Chemical Romance, and I enjoyed listening to Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree."

I just think that sometimes emo sounds a little too bland, and I want to be unique, away from the rest of the pack. Sorry for the misunderstanding, and sounding like a traditional pumpkin-hater.

maybe if you're going for kind of an 80s goth look you should try a hairstyle from that period! they are a bit dated, though...


also, avoid coming across as too political. i'm all for political outspokenness, but you might come across as a little green day-esque

additionally, I apologize if i went a little crazy a couple of posts ago... I don't want to come across as a hater. I'll now list things that I DO like about emos...

1. Expressing emotion...good as long as it's sincere.
2. Getting in touch with your feminine side.
3. Open-mindedness.
4. Some of my good friends are emo (lol, token emos?)

Now that I consider it, these are far more important than the things i dislike.

I love Robert Smith's hairdue... I'm thinking of adopting it...
Although it might attrack a lot of attention...
Maybe a lighter version.

yeah, like Rivers Cuomo said earlier, I don't think most of us don't like "emo" music because it's popular. I don't like hip-hop either but not because it's popular. It's just that i don't much care for guys talking about their cars, hoes and/or bitches, and other things. I don't even know how some people can call rap actual music sometimes.

There are some "emo" bands i tolerate. I've got a weak spot for Taking Back Sunday, some MCR, and thats about it. But really, i just don't care for the "emo" image/sound...just not my style. The fact that "emo" is popular along with rap, is just another inconvenience. I mean, disco music isn't popular anymore but i still hate it with a fiery passion.

Exactly what I was thinking. Just because we think emo is completely unoriginal and boring doesn't mean that we're trying to change the way some people think, we're just commenting on our opinion of the music.
