If you're comfortable with answering, what were your parents like when you were growing up?

Overprotective and expecting me to be perfect in almost everything.
If I came home with a report card with an A-, I would hear about it for a while.
Once I got a C on a math test(so scary! )
My mom made such a big deal out of it

they were fine i guess. my dad was and still is a real hardass about me getting a good education. That's probably because he might feel like he messed up with his other two kids.

Mine are pretty cool, my step-dad can be a bit of a prick sometimes but other than that they're pretty good but they can be a little strict when it comes to education and grades.

my parents are great.
my mums is sooo caring. my favorite thing about her is that she calls me sweetpea and possum. my dad is really funny and he is very open to giving me money!! haha
the only faults i can find with my mum is she likes her wine. with my dad its that he keeps everything bottled up and is a workaholic. but we all have faults.

Never met my dad, he lost his leg and went insane when I was still in my mommy's belly. My mom is awesome. She loves me tons, supports me any way she can. She's also a brilliant musician and songwriter. Her only issue is that she lets stress affect her too much. We're having a bit of financial difficulty right now, and she's letting it get to her way too much. I keep saying, do we have food? Are we alive? Then smile.

I love my parents even though they are slightly crazy. I dont know my real dad but my step dad has been around since I was 5. awesome guy when he doesnt drink actually my parents party more than I do. It caused lots of problems for me while I was growing up but now its fun to hang out with them, seperately of course since now they are seperated and enjoying their alcoholism in different ways.
I have lots of distance from them now and even though I love them to death I cant stand to be around them right now. They need to clean their lives up.

Re: Parents 1 Year, 9 Months ago
I'm only 15 right now, so this is how they are.

My mom thinks she is really nice and all, when she says shit that really just pisses me off. When I was typing this, she called me downstairs because I left the newspaper in a pile, it wasn't even a fucking pile, it was like all the sections were just pulled out on top of eachother, not all wraped up or whatever. Then she said "Put this plate away" and so I did, and then she said "Put it in the dishwasher." So i told her to shut up since she was being a fucking bitch just because I said I didn't like pot roast or something. She also told me not to go on my computer after I said that, but I'm here anyway. Fuck her.

My dad isnt like that at all. My dad is the fun one, he likes alot of the stuff I do, like my music and other stuff, and we usually have alot to talk about. If i asked him to do something, he'd say yes, but because my mom is a bitch, he is always like "I'll discuss this with your mother." My mom doesnt do that at all, she just says yes or no. My dad really works hard, he wakes up at like 5:30, makes my mom breakfast, and then he gets ready, makes me and my sister breakfast and then he packs lunches if we need them and then he lets out our chickens and he does the dishes, when my mom just gets ready in about 2 hours.

My parents think i'm such a great kid, and they expect me to be perfect in every class. I have 2 A's, a C, and 4 B's and they were really pissed off. They are now looking my grades up online everday and asking me about shit I dont even think my class did. They expect me to have all A's, which I don't.

They are also really protective and they don't let me do anything. They don't let me go places, unless they have met my friend's parents, and shit, and it fucking ruined my social life. I haven't gone out to hang out with friends for months, becuase my parents don't know theirs or shit. Then because they don't let me go anywhere, I am always on the computer, since i don't have anything else to do at my house. Then they say "you are on the computer too long, go see your friends" which they probally wont let me do.

Mom sucks
Dad is pussywhipped

overall, i dislike my parents.

Re: Parents 1 Year, 9 Months ago
that sucks....

my parents are cool

i live with my dad, and he works pretty hard to keep us some money, he'll give me a twenty for no reason, all the time, he's pretty strict, but doesnt get mad if i stay at my friends all night and half the next day, which is when spend that money on beer, he gets mad at us whenever we dont do our chores (me and my little sister, 14) and thats about it, i dont do things so he wont get mad at me, i do em because i dont want to disappoint him

my mom, because i dont live with her, seeing her is like rejuvination, i lived with her for like 9 months, she let me smoke and drink, in moderation, where i got my habit of not drinking much, and she would give me allowance, she cooks breakfast all the time, unlike my dad who sleeps till four pm, same discapline thing with her too,

they both dont care about my grades, as long as i pass, which is what you come to expect when your two older kids dropped out in grade 10

My parents have always been really great. They're not the best parents in the world, but they try their best to do what they can for us and that's just awesome to me.

I like when people appreciate everything their parents do for them.

Sounds like my parents being overly protective. It led me to have the mentality that if I'm going to ever do something fun, I'm going to have to do it on my own, without them knowing.

My parents were pretty laid back actually. We had rules and chores, but it was never overbearing. They did expect us to try our best. I don't remember getting into a whole lot of trouble - my sister was way more of a hellion than I was, so I got off easy for the most part.

My mom always tried to be "hip" ahah and know the latest and greatest in music and fashion. I'm still pretty close to my parents. When I had my surgery, they came to stay and help run errands for me and do chores around my house that I couldn't do. It was pretty nice.

My parents are cool, too. They let me do pretty much what I want, within reason. My mom even said I could try marijuana (I didn't though), because I guess at heart she's still kind of a hippie. Their both on the liberal side, so I ended up going one step further; I consider myself a socialist (uh oh, Pumpkin Jodi works at the pentagon, doesn't she? ).
My dad listens to some bad music, but he's introduced me to a lot of cool stuff, too (New Order, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Radiohead, The Who).
They're divorced, so it's always kind of tense when they're together, and even worse when I end up having to act as a middleman.

I'm curious what you guys have to say about this, though, because I'm conflicted... My friend's parents grounded him for a month for visiting some friends in Brooklyn, in the projects. Are they justified in this, or is it just an illogical prejudice ?
