another cool chicago-based band: Wilco. "A ghost is born" is a fantastic album.
Also, lately i've discovered The Arcade Fire. they rule.
And ofcourse, nothing (except sp) beats The Mars Volta.

I've been getting into Bauhaus lately. And I've only just begun to understand the brilliance of Joy Division. Also, The Jesus and Mary Chain. And i finally got Mary Star of the Sea (love it). And I've been listening to a lot of Chumbawamba. And my mum introduced me to Bjork, she's got such an awesome voice.

for a while it was flooded with newbies- i didnt like that, but that was better than what it is now.

its of my neck! my friend was taking random pictures all over the place and took this one. i like it- it looks kind of frosted.

are you going to the big day out? peaches will be there!

you look like a bit of a stunner from what i can see! are u a natural blonde?

no im over big day out ive to everyone since i was about 14...i just go to sideshows now...except i will go to the vfestival to see the pixies if they dont do sideshows...bdo just isnt the same anymore and the quality of bands is diminishing...with the times

The Big Day Out is getting boring, I've never been to one, but all the acts are turning into pop. I didn't want to really see anybody this year (I would have go to the one last year just to see The Mars Volta if I was into them back then). The Pixies would be awesome, I wonder if the Pumpkins will ever play the BDO again. It's been going downhill ever since 01 maybe?

Anyway... SLINT... are awesome. Late 80's early 90's math rock (just about any kind of math music is awesome).

If anybody digs Metalcore or Mathcore, Norma Jean, The Chariot, are all good.

Mellowdrone (the name describes them pretty well) are good...

And the necessary prog. music - Opeth (Progressive death metal) and TMV of course (although I'm not really into their latest album)

Joy Division is the most underated band of all time and Bjork is my favorite female vocalist hands down.

im sure there are still tix 4 the mars volta for march since its been postponed. u should have a look. i doubt theyll ever do bdo out again...you wouldnt have wanted to be there anyway it was a shit fight. the bdo crowds are turing into yobbos even more than before,,,very violent crowds, very little respect for the music since theyre usually only there to see a couple of headliners

Probably.. I need to get a job first and find a way for my parents to let me go to Sydney. The acts are just so unapealing now. It would be worth my while to just go to a sideshow of an act apearing instead of going to the BDO if i just wanted to see that act (night time is better anyway).

Re: Musical Enlightenment Thread! 1 Year, 10 Months ago
The Velvet Underground. I have known about them for a long time, but I never heard any of their songs. I have an extensive collection of Lou Reed albums, and he was their frontman for all their good albums, so I figured I'd just stick with him. But then I heard one of their songs on CSI: Vegas (Sweet Jane), so I had to go download it. And then I had to go buy all of their albums.

They were probably one of the most influential bands in rock and roll. They are given more credit than most for turning rock'n'roll from a genre for teenagers and girls into something very mature and, well, adult. Very dark, lots of songs about drugs (Heroin is an incredible song) and prostitutes (I'm Waiting for the Man), and transvestites/transsexuals (Sister Ray, Lady Godiva's Operation), and sadomasochism (Venus in Furs creeps me out).

I did not think I would be interested in them because they were very much a sixties band, and sixties music tends to have a distinctive production quality that I can't really get into (it sounds raw and not nearly as crisp as albums produced even in the seventies). But VU rocks. If you can't get into them, I might suggest Lou Reed's Transformer album, which is much more accessible (plus it has Perfect Day on it, which is the most awesome song ever).

Lou Reed’s the man. He’s like Trent Reznor’s dad.

i really like The Black Keys. I've heard their single, Your Touch a few times and decided to check out their other stuff. I really dig their stripped down, rugged, distorted blues sound. Definitely going to pick up some of their albums tomorrow.
