I agree. . . I am an "older" fan. .and I certainly don't think of myself as anymore "elite" than anyone else.

i dont even know any other pumpkins fans, cept my friend who likes sd, and alot of other nineties music. but if i met another pumpkin fan who was like 12 id have to think they didnt really get it.

No, look guys - SERIOUSLY - I'm an older fan and I am an "elitist" because I've earned the RIGHT to be an elitist.

Just think of it this way - Would you dare to argue with a beatles fan who was alive in the 60's about the Beatles or their impact if you were born in the 80's? Better yet - would you dare to think you no more about the holocaust than a survivor just because you are a history major?

The fact is, the music you guys love was created in a generation that is not your own. The 90's were a crazy time in music and in general and it was the conditions of the time or the "zeitgeist" that made it possible for these artists to create in the way they did. Older fans of SP experienced these conditions first hand and the songs spoke for alot of us. It doesnt mean that you cant love the music just as much because you were born later though. Hey - i love 70's music BUT i wouldnt dare to think I know more about it than my dad.

I'm glad SP has put together a new album - just so that fans of today can have something to call their own. In the future when you see younger fans talk about "Zeitgeist" you can actually tell them where you were when it hit the airwaves and how exciting a time it was when SP returned. Dougy, u know the feeling you got when u heard Tarantula for the first time? It was unlike anything else right? Well enjoy my younger brother - for this is your time.

I am 37 and have been a fan since I first heard Rhinoceros on the radio in Detroit in 91.
The music is always going to have a different relevance and significance to anyone, regardless of how old they were in the 90s or when they started to get into the Pumpkins.
I think it's really exciting how many people who are in their teens now seem really enthusiastic about this band.
I think the fact that the band has a meaning and impact on people who did not grow up or were not whatever age when the band was originally coming up is a beautiful thing.
The fact that so many people from different backgrounds and different ages and different viewpoints can get something so strong from the music, even if it's nothing "deeper" than "This rocks!" is a wonderful thing.
I'm glad anyone appreciates the Pumpkins at all, they're so special.

who cares what impact they had! thats a moot point when it comes to music, revolutionary music can still suck compared to perfect not so revolutionary music.

This is precisely my point, for me its not about who knows more, because obviously, if you are growing up with someone than you would know alot more about them than someone looking back in hindsight. My point is that (and especialy with SP) good bands and artists transcende time, transcende the scene they were apart of and made a product that anyone from any time could connect to, and because of that i am irritated by people who think they have more of a right to be a fan simply because they were more blessed to have been born earlier.

That is officially the coolest thing I've heard all day. I wish I was brought up on a healthy diet of SP <
