Copying DVDs.... 2 Years, 4 Months ago
I've been researching how to copy a commercially bought movie dvd. I am unable to do it with any software currently on my computer and so I am wondering if any of you know how to copy dvds which have copy protection, or where I can download some software to do so.

p.s If you want to delete this topic then that is okay, I appreciate that you may not want such content on this forum.

there is always a way, much like there is a way to strip the i-tunes copy protection, which limits your authorization to 5 devices.

I used apollo dvd copy. It had an additional download that you could use to unprotect DVDs.

A lot of things are illeagal, but we still do them.

Well, I do love you... but another mate gave me that program recently. I've successfully copied Resident Evil 1, but when I went to copy Resident Evil 2 it is harder because the file comes out too big to fit onto a standard dvd-r so I think I need to compress it or something using dvd-shrink...

... Any thoughts anyone?

Umm.. try using the decrypter and applying the decrypting to the program of apollo DVD copy, if that is how that one works. Apollo DVD copy, www.download.com/3000-7970_4-10340365.html , can copy the DVD to your harddrive, but it comes out in the DVD file types. That is when you use something such as DVD Ripper Platinum. Use the Apollo DVD Copy to either copy the DVD to your harddrive, or from your DVD in your DVD drive to a DVD-R drive. If you don't have 2 drives, you need to copy it to your harddrive.

The thing about the Apollo DVD copy is that it compresses the whole DVD so that it goes onto one DVD no matter what, if you set it to that. Then you can remove unnessescary subtitles and alternate language tracks. You can copy just the film, the film and the DVD menu, or the whole disc!

Its an awsome program. If you don't understand, email me. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Either the laws in the UK differ from the rest of the World, or im just misreading when on every commercial DVD i buy from the shops states on the cover andor DVD itself and before the menu comes up it states the laws for each country saying that:

"This DVD can't be copied, lent to any friends, family etc... or shown for audiences and to other members of the public such as libraries, schools, prisons etc..."

Maybe its just me.

Seeing as this comes up with virtually every DVD and video i own.

Copying a store bought DVDVHSCDCassette is illegal even if its for your own use. In the US and UK, its technically illegal if you copy CD tracks onto an mp3 player despite owning an original copy.

But back to the subject. It is illegal to copy a commercially bought DVD for whatever purposes, it's also illegal to buy or download a non commercial copy.

I don't respect people who do this as if it was released commercially or otherwise, i believe the artist (musically) or the film company receive credit and appreciation for making and releasing the material. It cost them money to make it, so £10-15 out of my own pocket is pitance to what money they put towards making it.

RBD - I do not believe it is illegal to make your own copy for personal use. . but it is to use it as "shareware" or to make a profit off of it. For example, it is perfectly OK to make a backup copy of your WindowsXP CD ROM . it's the same category of copyright as the music.

Weren't you the one who posted on a different thread for people to chill out - you may want to take your own advice. You have been coming across on here lately as well. . .a Netphorian. Most of us were pointing out that there is always a way to do it, I don't believe any of us were encouraging people to do it for illegal or profitable reasons that would take away from artists. I don't do it, I just know there is a way to do it. . .

In 2004 a federal judge ruled that it was illegal.

I don't know how much relevance that still has.

I'm sorry you find debation hostile, i am just stating facts and the laws. Yes people should chill out, i said that and i stand by that. But there is no harm in a good argument/debate/discussion once in a while. Im sorry th
