Concert Screaming 1 Year, 4 Months ago

A simmilar topic was posted yet it recieved large ammounts of harsh critisim and was blocked, but i believe it raised a valid ethical issue, one that deserves a reasonable discussion.
The question is wether it is acceptable to have the entire crowd screaming and shouting throughout the performance. I would say that i find it extreamly irritating, a certain level of crowd noise is unavoidable and a small amount can even add to the experience, yet when it is so out of control that it is detracting from the experience, i dont believe it is acceptable. Case in point: when Billy was trying to tell the Disarm story at the fillmore, and the crowd was too loud for him to even talk, so he abandonnned the story, i think its simple common decency to shut up when someone is trying to talk, this is true in any other situation, i dont see why it should be different when the person is on stage.

Unfortunately in my experience people just dont have common decency or courtesy anymore - its like cause they pay their $60 they think its fine to do whatever, ethically i agree with you dougy, its so not right and the question is deserving of a serious thread - i think we're all a pretty smart bunch and so can comment appropriately

The Fillmore on the 22nd? Me too!!
yeah, Billy said, "I wrote this song...."
**crowd shouting crowd shouting** But Billy was cool with it, he smiled and then he said, "Well I was going to tell you a touching story of this song, but nevermind!" and he laughed at us as if to say 'your loss' and then played Disarm.
But still, I wanted to hear the story damn it!

And now, once again, due to the selfishness of humanity, we may never know, in general people like that stopped bothering me a long time ago, but when it comes to the pumpkins, its a whole different ball game.

i totally agree, ofcourse their has to be some screaming at a gig,but when Billy is trying to talk to his fans-ppl should have the common courtesy of keeping their mouths shut & listen to what he has to say,its not often you get to hear what's goin on inside the head of the one & only - Mr. Billy Corgan.

At the concert, there were these two girls that just wouldn't shut the hell up. They would talk constantly during it, and I was so annoyed. Finally this guy told them, "Shut the fuck up!" and they got upset and left.
Wednesday Night show was a lot more polite, at the end of the show, we chanted "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!" And Billy came out and he put his hands together and bowed.

I think screaming is a vital part of a concert. But not screaming over someone SPEAKING. A lot of people do it just because they weren't loved enough by their parents, haha. But there's a time and place for everything. I'd be a little concerned if people WEREN'T screaming at a concert. The energy level would be soggy.
The exception, I'd say, would be acoustic shows. That's the time you button your lips and show reverence to the person on stage. Or a Sigur Ros concert. Man, people treat those like a night at the opera, and rightfully so!

I don't know, these shows in particular have been particularly rowdy. Maybe it's the smaller venue and the sort of intimacy there, and maybe billy's sorta partly responsible for telling so many stories and joking at or with the crowd. Maybe they feel that if he's really loose on stage and talking and stuff that they can too. I dunno, it doesn't seem to bother billy much. And about the whole disarm story thing he made it seem like it was a big story, but he was prolly just going to say something funny or not really anything important, which was why it was funny for him when everybody clearly regretted talking.
