To the person who can't think of any good music from the 00's (Err.. the Zeros? The nils? Oh man, no idea) you're really not looking hard enough. Everyone who says the music of this decade sucks just never really tried very much. It seems like you just turned on the radio for a little bit, heard pretty generic stuff, and decided then there's not much going on.

The truth is that now in this age of the internet (Eww.... this sounds cliche) independant bands are getting a lot more powerful easier for obvious reasons. There are some fantastic bands nobody's ever heard of in this decade...


Yes, but remember the thread was the top bands/artists of all time. That would seem to me to be artists that have been prolific and endured the decades such as Bon Jovi, Madonna, Metallica, Depeche Mode, U2 etc. . (while not hip now, they definitely endured time with a continued fan base).

As for today's music, I tend to listen to Hoobastank, Nickelback, Linkin Park, 3 Door Down, Bloodhound Gang, Lisa Cerbone (indie), Red This Ever (local indie). And of course. . .waiting not so patiently for Billy to get the new album out.

I just feel that nothing is original anymore like all "new" bands just don't have that edge on them like they did way-back when (early-mid 90ties)Plus my local alternative/rock radio station I think is really horrible and they are responsible for most of my new-rock exposure.

well, the Beatles are my favorite band of all time, but I also believe that they are the most groundbreaking, zeppelin was the greatest rock and roll band

about todays music sucking or not sucking.... this really depends on opinion. I for one tend to feel that the music in this decade so far isn't that great..sure there a few exceptions, bands that stand out, but I generally don't believe that todays music is very good, or atleast that they have got nothing on some of the older artists

and yeah, lets not turn this into a flame fest forum....it's not a proven fact that zwan sucks, it's just your opinion cashcarstar, but you guys don't have to call him an idiot and a moron to prove that zwan DOESNT suck

First of all, I really think that this whole "indie" thing has lost its meaning completely. People seem to use that classification to make things more appealing and that really bothers me. I also agree that this decade has not yielded the best music...in fact a good deal of it is quite mediocre. Nonetheless, previous decades have produced wonderful, wonderful music. :-)

My favorite bands of the past few decades:

60's: The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
70's: Led Zeppelin, Queen, Heart (Only the seventies stuff...the rest is a bit lacking.)
80's: Depeche Mode, The Cure and U2
90's: The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Pearl Jam
00's: (So far...) Franz Ferdinand, Muse (I really believe that British bands have really got it right now.)

By the way...I really don't think that all this bad-mouthing is productive. Just keep the discussion going and express your opinions without insulting anyone.

My top groups would have to be: The Beatles, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, 311, Weezer, the Ventures, My Bloody Valentine, the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Zwan, Teenage Fanclub, and Swervedriver, in some form of the order, but not exactly. Interestingly enough, I had never heard of Swervedriver before seeing their name on the marquee with the Smashing Pumpkins at the beginning of "Quiet" from Vieuphoria, and eventually decided to give them a listen. The Beatles will probably always be my number one, as they have been my favorite since age 5 and the first group I got into, though the Pumpkins, who have been with me for a while as well, have really given them a run for their money the last year or so. I agree that the music on the radio is crap now, though I have managed to find a couple of really good bands online. Fortunately for me, my contempt for modern radio has really driven me this year towards great alt-rock bands of the late 80's-early 90's like many that I mentioned, as well as others like Lush, Catherine Wheel, and so forth. And of course the Complex has a place in my heart as well.

I'm really into 00s stuff, and have yet to go back in time. So far I've made it to the 90s with Smashing Pumpkins. Here's my list:

1. Smashing Pumpkins- They're just awesome. No matter what kind of music you'll like, you'll find something with the Pumpkins. No matter what mood you're in, there's something for you to listen to.

2. Rilo Kiley- Great in almost the same way as the Pumpkins, Jenny Lewis and co. can cover a lot of genres and pull it off.
