Before Game Meals 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hey, I play hockey at the Jr. A level in the USHL (right before college hockey) and does anyone have any advice on what to eat before games? Ive done alfredo with chicken before games in the past but does anyone have any other methods?

Hahaha, I was just thinking about that. I just got back from one of my highscool hockey games and an hour before that my family and I were at a party thrown by my parents friends. Anyway, I had a huge plate of salad, a bunch of shishcabobs or whatever there called, and then a hundred slices of pie.

i felt like i was going to die during my game.

Pasta always works well but I would usually go with a tomato base instead of a cream based sauce because that usually sits kinda heavy with me. ummm... I also have had like a big ol baked potato with a meaty topping. Meal replacement shakes would do pretty well, but only if you eat some sort of bread/wheat product to gain some extra carbs for energy. pretty much anything you like CAN work if you follow a formula. You want a lot of protein (so a good amount of meat), a serving of vegetables (something wholesome and green: salad, broccoli, green beans etc), a huge serving of carbs (STARCHES like pasta, potatoes, bread, rice, whatever), and of course TONS of water.

if you plan a meal that generally follows that you should be alright, but try to stay away from fried foods, things that will upset your stomach with gas or whatnot, and sweets like PIE! don't do that. Make sure to control your portions too, cause if you eat a lot then you are just askin for trouble.

Oh and don't take like any stacker energy pills before a game. My friend did that once and almost died.
