I'm not sure what parts are cut out because I've never read the books.
However, yes, I did read somewhere that in the movie the Pope along with other religious leaders are the main villans

pan's labyrinth sucked too, i was all jazzed up for a fantasy adventure, not a war story
You didn't like Pan's Labyrinth just because of its marketing campaign? Oh dear... What were you expecting? The Wizard of Oz?
Its a stunning film!
i was expecting a damn labyrinth, pan's labyrinth that is. its not that stunning. and i dont like movies that have unhappy or unmeaningful endings. i actually liked arthur and the invisibles way more than pan's labyrinth. lol
How can you say that Pan's Labyrinth is 'unmeaningful'?! The entire film is steeped with metaphors, revolving around catholicism (ala the scene with the eyeless demon & the forbidden fruit), facism & the power of the imagination. Its not your a-typical fanasy film, its to do with hidden battles away from the ones which are progressing throughout the film. The fact that none of Ofelia's fantasies effect what is going on in the real world reflect that they arn't even real.
So now your trying to tell me Arthur & the Invisibles is more meaningful than Pan's Labyrinth? Clearly a work of cinematic genius blows over you for a kid's film. I'm guessing your catalogue of favourite movies are all Hollywood productions then eh? Deary me...

But now your just not making sense, a story thats meaningful but is a waste of time?! guuuuuh . You could say that about every story then!!! Sorry, I'm being rather elitist, if you didn't like it, well you didn't like it, me ranting ain't gonna change your opinion. Then again I am a Film Studies student, can ya tell :P ??
Anyways, I've just sat here ranting & haven't told the films I despise:
All of the American Pie's can go burn in hell, they are all immature piles of garbage.
Crash (as in the original one, were people get turned on by car crashed), yeah it was so unbelievably shite. May as well have just been a porn movie except you can't see anything, so laaame.
28 Weeks later, Days later was good but it never asked for a sequel & never one as sequelly as this one.
On the the subject of sequels The Matrix sequels made me wanna gouge my eyes out. Now those were pointless movies. Fair enough the original was actually trying to make a vague point but its as if they just had money on the mind & created a really bad script over powered by pointlessly repetitive action sequences. That said, the Animatrix was very good.
The Chronicles of Narnia featured some of the most terrible child actors ever, not to mention a horrificly badly directed movie.
Lord of the Rings, the stories are nice & everything but the films are terribly pretentious piles of poopy. Not to mention the last one had everyone wanting to leave the cinema towards the end it was so dull...
Mehh, theres loads more I can think of but those are the ones that pee me off the most.

Exactly. I can't stand that movie.
I'm sick of movies with fantasy plots where little kids with english accents, freckles, and nicely parted haircuts, become heroes and fight off random "beasts" and somehow save the day.

well homicidal i guess you would have to be a film studies student to enjoy that movie lol
i read catcher in the rye way back in the day cause i heard about it so much, i liked it, but felt let down at the end, teen angst.. nah by ned vizzini is better lol theres a part where he uses xyu as background music in one of his movies
oh man, i really hated i now pronounce you chuck and larry i thought it was gonna be somewhat funny, and it was for like the first ten minutes, and then it just gets spooky, but i guess you get to see jessica beil in her underwear... and now i realize all adam sandler movies have almost the same progression

A horrible movie I've seen recently - The Marine.
It's so woeful... John Cena is a horrible actor... It still hurts me knowing I'll never get the 90 minutes I wasted on that movie back.

This film begs the question - why do wrestlers become actors??
See this is why I never watch action films cus I always know they will be samey & poop.

To be honest, I actually don't mind The Rock even though his movies are usually so cliche and repetetive. But then I waste time watching another midday movie starring Hulk Hogan and I die a littler inside.

The Rock's best role was in The Mummy Returns when he doesn't even talk :P .

28 Weeks Later rocks but I can see why so many females would have a problem with it. Look - all the lady had to do was listen to her husband in the first place!
The Matrix sequels sucked because the guys credited with writing the first script didnt actually didn't come up with the story at all. The story for the first matrix movie was written by a woman named Sophia Stewart and the Wachowski brothers basicly stole her idea, but when it came time for the sequels they didnt know where to take the movie. This is also the reason that people find the ending so confusing. The woman who wrote the original story entitle "The Third Eye" later sued.
Here's an article about her...

Am not a female you fooligan.
I hated 28 Weeks later because it was basically just like the orginal but with no progression whatsoever. The directing was clearly trying to imitate Danny Boyle's & the plot was incredibly inane. Also, the ending completely ruined it for me, were you see the people infected with RAGE running around the Eiffel Tower, its as if they are trying to say: "Hey fuck you guys, we're making a 28 Months Later whether this is successful or not, & its gonna be in France ." Its just typical sequel material just tacked onto the end of the other one. All in all, a pointlessly forgettable film.
Then again there is one amusing part - when the helicopter flies down & its blades chop the RAGE victims up, but that was only cus it was funny :P .
That Matrix thing is interesting. I really want to read Sophia Stewart's script to see how similar it is because she also claims that the creators of Terminator stole her idea as well. I imagine the Third Eye is about robots taking over the world...
