I'm sure you all have heard about Gibson's new robot guitar right? Well on Friday Gibson will unveil the first run of it's limited edition self tuning "robot" guitar. 10 limited editions in the Blue Silverburst Les Paul model will be available at each Gibson store worldwide for around $2,999. The regular model hits the shops in the new year.
In an interview on the firm's website, inventor Chris Adams, who hit on the idea after becoming frustrated by constant manual tuning, described it as the "Mercedes of guitars". He said the self-tuning device was already being used by guitarists such as Billy Corgan, from the Smashing Pumpkins, and Matt Bellamy, from Muse.
I'm not spending the money, but I really want one. Gimmick or not, it's still pretty damn cool. It's great for alternate tunings too because it can store up to 6 presets. And apparently BC uses some for of the self tuning guitars.
Dang!
Yeah, I herd about that, and got an email from guitarcenter.
I never really read it, I just figured it was some cool looking guitar with knobs that light up or something. I didn't know it was self tuning!
Thats really cool.
However, I'm sure the motors wont accurately tune the strings forever, that would probably be th only bad part of the guitar.
sounds pretty awsome but ... like what was said before the machine head motors would stuff out after a while ... but then again if gibson do a lifetime warrenty then thumbs up
I once snapped a string whilst tuning during a sound check for a gig so im always paramoid about tuning but as Im not a fan of Gibson guitars this doesn't really interest me; but obviously its still an amazing creation.

hahaha dont you hate snapping your strings right before or during something major ... i once snapped one about 5 minutes before i was due to go out on stage ... luckily i got one on tuned up stretched it and tuned again just before we went on
But dont you think its ironic that the people who are uing them; billy corgan, matt bellamy are people who dont even need to tune their guitars at gigs cos they have a whole bunch of techies to do it for them.
Holy shit that is cool. Although i must admit there is something ritualistic for me with tuning and stringing up the guitar. Like tennis players fiddling with their strings. It would feel wierd not to have to do that
Me and my friend have an ongoing competition to see who can afford it first. Unfortunately, by the time any of us get money to buy it, something more awesome will have come along.
