I was just thinking about how artists these days are releasing their music in more and more radical ways, and I was wondering if this has been done before.

What if SP released their next album like a movie premier, as in they would play a show, and they would play the new album in it's entirety, and that would be the first time ANYONE would hear it. A bit like how Pink Floyd play Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety at shows sometimes.

Oh! and then you can buy the album after the show!

Like a listening party? Artists have those all the time. As for playing the entire album live, some songs are a little more difficult to reproduce live, or just don't work live. During MCIS Billy mentioned wanting to play the entire album live, but of course that never happened.

i was just listing to the hipsters podcast, and they mentioned a company in eroupe recording the live shows for artists and then selling it at the end of the show, so i don't think it is exctly like geek n.z. said, but along the same lines.

that would have been awesome, i hope he considers doing that at some point.

that would be a bad idea i think, like how many people can be at your show? I've heard of a couple bands not even promoting their album so that the fans and critics or whoever else hear it at the same time... which I still dont know what to think about, lol

that is the only thing about it that would suck.

to release an album, dunno, would be neato though. they could release it at the concert and simulaniously at stores. oh and maybe have a live feed of the concert to the stores for people who couldn't go to the concert. that would be cool.

I just thought, because artists these days really seem to struggle to get their music heard, unless they're top 40 kind of artists, which gets devoured by the masses.

So then you have musicians like Radiohead and NIN who release their music for little to nothing, and it gets SOOO much coverage about it, just because it's a novel idea. It doesn't even matter if it's a good or bad album, because people will flock along just to find out what the fuss is all about.
