For all those non-believers out there, I'll gladly tell ya why Weezer can be someone's favorite band (they were for me when Zwan was gone and SP had yet to return):
Were you ever the kid who got picked on? The one who'd rather play video games than go to parties? Did you ever know what it was like to be a nerd ... and finally learn to be OK with that? Weezer helped me accept and embrace my geekiness, and you know what? We're in good company! The band's lyrics are so smart, relatable. The riffs are ace. Rivers is a paragon of rock star nerdiness, and those songs are perfect for singalongs.
And Brian Bell is hot.

And I'll actually be interviewing him on Wednesday! SO STOKED!
That said ... I am really confused by the Red Album. "Pork and Beans" as the lead single was almost deceiving in its awesomeness, cos the rest of the album cannot compare. Now, I am not one to clamor for sameness. I don't mind that it doesn't sound like Blue or "Pinkerton." I do mind that the song structures are all wonky. I mind that whereas letting things be more democratic on this album is a good thing, the reality is that Brian, Pat and Scott don't have strong vocals, and their tunes just feel weak and disjointed. There are a few good songs ("Variations on a Shaker Hymn," "Dreamin'"

but yeah, this one's going to have to grow on me.
