The Cure 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I'm sure there are a few fans of The Cure on here, so I was wondering what you think so far of the new singles (and b-sides if you've heard them).

Also, I heard a while ago that the new album was going to be a double CD (or at least Robert Smith would himself produce a double CD as well as the record label putting out a single disc version). More recently I heard that this idea seems to have gone and instead they are going to release a single CD album using only the poppy, upbeat tracks.
I like all The Cure's stuff, but I tend to prefer the gloomier side of them on albums such as Bloodflowers, Pornography and Disintegation, so I really hope this later rumour isn't true. Anyone have anymore info about the new album?

Anyway, personally I've liked both singles so far. Neither amazing, but pretty good. The latest b-side "All Kinds of Stuff" is very good too, but I'm not so keen on the first b-side "NY Trip".
I hope there are going to be stronger tracks on the album, and until I hear for sure that it won't be happening, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the double CD.

Thoughts?

I like the Cure also, and I tend to like their gloomier stuff as well. Pornography and Disintegation being my fav.
I think they should stray from the upbeat poppy stuff, they have far more to give and I think that is pure record company crap there.
"NY Trip" isn't good, no it isnt but "All Kinds of Stuff" is not that bad at all.

I most definately want the double cd, I think there will be alot more familiar material, more of the Cure I love.

Agreed. All Kinds of Stuff is possibly my favourite of the 4 new Cure songs so far.

Yeah, Im a big cure fan and have been following this new album quite a bit. From looking at the live performances on Youtube, some of their new songs a are really sounding like good old moody cure. Here's a couple of the best:

So, the news of a single pop album really annoyed me. The Only One was OK but not great and I cant stand Freakshow.
THough I think Smith mentioned the idea of releasing another more moody album after the poppier one in sept. I sure hope so, as that would be awesome.

Cool, I will listen to those soon (after the album I'm listening to at the moment ends).

So if they're moodier songs, do you think they *won't* be on the new Cure album, but then will appear on a 2nd new Cure album not long after?

If they are doing two albums I would prefer it if they did one all pop stuff and one all moody stuff. As much as I like Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Wild Mood Swings, the mix of pop and gloom makes both feel slightly awkward.

As for favourite Cure songs... that's almost as hard as picking favourite Pumpkins songs!
Watching Me Fall could be my favourite. Bloodflowers, There Is No If, 39, Plainsong, Pictures of You... anything from Pornography... Hell, I can't narrow it down enough so I'll just stop there

Wow, Underneath the Stars is amazing. That looks like it will be added to my list of favourite Cure songs when it is released. I'm only letting myself listen to it that one time though until I can hear it properly on the album.

I'm listening to A Boy I Never Knew now and that sounds great too. Sounds a bit like Disintegration-era Cure, reminds me a bit of Plainsong, which I love.

Hmmm... I really want those 2 songs on the new album... but I also want a 100% moody, atmospheric Cure album!

I heard they recorded 33 songs for the intended double album, anyone else hear that?

Yeah, I heard it was like 33, so releasing only 1 single disc might be a bit unlikely.

That song underneath the stars sounds like it would be wirth the album on its own.
As for my fave song, I would have to go with Plainsong too. Its the first track from the first (and best) cure album i bought, and if i listen to it in the right mood/setting it really is one of the best songs ever. Also, like the pumpkins I think they have a whole load of amazing b-sides as well; like The exploding Boy - that ones great too.

The Join The Dots boxset of b-sides is great. Of course, being the weirdo that I am, I compiled all my favourites from those four CDs to make on 'ultimate' CD
That reminds me, the song Burn from The Crow soundtrack is one of my favourites too, and also suits the movie perfectly.

Dammit, I couldn't hold out very long - I'm listening to Underneath the Stars again (this'll be my last time).

Kinda reminds me of when the Pumpkins toured before Machina. I used to use an SP chatroom back then and people heard Cash Car Star (I think it might have been one of the first new songs they played, I'm not sure) and everyone was really stoked, saying how great it was. And then it wasn't on the album.

i remembered that. i believe i heard in 1998 on tv for a kiss event, (i'll try and find it if its on youtube) and i was really stoked as well. but i wouldn't change machina I too much. It's one of my favorite albums.

Well, according to Wiki it is indeed going to be a single release of mainly upbeat songs, with the darker songs possibly following on a separate release.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cure%27s_thirteenth_album

Disappointing. Though it doesn't give sources for the information, so I don't know how accurate it is.

By the way, anyone know if Disintegration is going to be re-released like all the albums leading up to it were?

Not too sure if it's being re-released.

OH man. Do I love The Cure, I've seen them twice.
I love The Cure just as much as I love SP, Wish has to be one of my favorite albums and most played albums.
