50s - Elvis
60s - The Beatles
70s - Led Zeppelin
80s - U2
90s - Nirvana
00s - ??? (I think this decade of music is really shit)

No one can disagree with my 50s & 60s choices.
I think Led Zeppelin were the greatest group of musicians to ever play together, that's why they get the best band of the 70s.
I just have a thing against the 80s but I like U2 & they were the biggest band in the world at the end of that decade. That's why they get the best band of the 80s.
I chose Nirvana over the Pumpkins in the 90s cos they had more of an impact & Nevermind is possibly the greatest album ever.
The Smashing Pumpkins are still my favourite band. Hopefully their reunion can make them the best band of the 00s.

i would agree that thus far there hasn't been any great music in the decade of 00. The only new band that has moved me or struck me as being original is The Killers. I think they rock!
If your talking about of all time, it's easily the Beatles. No one can deny that. As far as Nirvana being the greatest band of the 90's, well lets leave it at, I disagree (strongly).

To the person who can't think of any good music from the 00's (Err.. the Zeros? The nils? Oh man, no idea) you're really not looking hard enough. Everyone who says the music of this decade sucks just never really tried very much. It seems like you just turned on the radio for a little bit, heard pretty generic stuff, and decided then there's not much going on.

The truth is that now in this age of the internet (Eww.... this sounds cliche) independant bands are getting a lot more powerful easier for obvious reasons. There are some fantastic bands nobody's ever heard of in this decade...

Thank-you! I was getting petty sick of cashcar1919 continuously interjecting his/her deep level of hatred towards Zwan. You don't like Zwan: fine, we get it, but that doesn't mean that everyone else here feels the same way or is a moron because they like Zwan.

I'm going to agree with Underwater on this one, there are tons of great bands out there right now (Death Cab, The Postal Service, The new Strokes album Rocks) but the internet has changed everything, right down to the way we 'consume' music.

Does anyone still go out and buy an album? If you do you are an exception... Most people just download the songs they like and never bother listening to a whole album. What if this had been the case when MCIS was released? Die hard fans would have appreciated the structure and concept of the album but would SP have pulled as many NEW fans as they did - prob. not. As a result would the tour have been as grandiose as it was, or would radio have been as saturated as it was?...likely not - and that would have sucked.

There is more pressure on artists and labels now to release albums packed with hits. Remember the days when you'd get two 'radio friendly' hits per album? That just can't happen in today's market. Bands simply are not pulling in $$$ needed to support them in the ways fans were use to in the 90's.
