first 9-5 3 Months, 1 Week ago

just thought id make a thread about it, so hopefully i can read someone else's horror story, lol heres mine
i work at the dumb 7-11, its basically the only place that wasnt a fast food joint that called me for part time. anyways its summer now. it started off with me working with a retarded fellow who likes to dance and can only do one task at a time (that includes counting dimes before nickels when given change) and a super hideous girl who thinks shes the greatest customer chit chatter of all time, and shes intent on looking busy before actually being busy (she'll sweep and mop the floor almost constantly rather than doing of shit that needs to be done, which leaves me to do it)
so yeah, the retard needs babysitting, he fucks up bad hourly. and the hideous girl is annoying as hell.
now the burn out manager (shes seriously burnt our for life, the saddest person you'd ever meet) puts me on for night shift cause the night burn out (a 400 pound sarcastic bitch) is on vacation. so heres me luck of the draw (most likely the managers just racist, considering i should have already gotten a raise for training the retard and hideous girl, and im the only native person who works there) working nights, during summer. no more hot chicks in short shorts to check out and flirt with during the day. just drunks stumbling in for "can i use your washroom" or "i lost my money" or the idiot whos pissed off cause its pre-pay for gas after 7 pm.
the worst part of working nights is that the other night guy is a week newer than me and he makes $1.20 more just cause he works nights, and i still get minimum cause its only temporary, temporary for like two weeks though, which is like two weeks of winter. lol
so i swear the managers a racist, or might be pissed cause i got a bad cold after three weeks of working, lol, its not my fault!

oh, golly that does suck.
it has been so long since my first job, that i can't really remember the suckyness of it, but it did suck i remember that.
but my last sucky ass job before i opened my own buisness is still etched in my mind..........
"the waffle house"
it is scary to even think of it. this waffle house is in a small town, but right on the interstate. i worked nights, 3rd shift, for a while, and you get the drunks right out of the bar, from the town 30 miles up the road, and you think, wow how did they make it here without killing anyone, and they order thier food, after like forever, cause they are talking with eachother, and can't decide what to order, and they spill thier drink, cause they are drunk. and they are to loud. and you get the wierdo serial killer looking people, that make you glad there are bright lights and cameras everywhere. and then the cooks are taking "breaks" out back, to do god knows what, more than likely crack, and they are all wiered out.
then i worked days, and around here no one tips. that is right no tipping, they think if they leave you the pennies and nickels from thier change that you should kiss the ground they walk on, when you are only making 2.19 an hour, to get them thier stupid waffles and hashbrowns. and they treat you like you are stupid, when they can't even say pecan right.
and then the managers are on a power trip, cause they get a closet size office, that has a 2 way mirror, so they can sit in there and talk on thier cell phone and watch everyone, and not do thier damn job. or act like it is so difficult to be the manager of the waffle house, you count some inventory, and the money, and sit in your closet office, what is so flipping hard about that?
and you have to say hello to everyone who comes in the door, and you feel like a retard, and then when you first start you have to watch these really dumb videos. and the ordering, you have to stand infront of everyone and shout the dumbest things to the cooks.
so needless to say that is not the whole horror, but the highlights.
that is why i don't work there anymore

Oy vey, those are some horror stories!
My first job was McDonald's. It sucked, needless to say. I was pretty much the only person who spoke English there (and this was in Southern California, mind you!) In the course of the three or so months I worked there ...
A pervy repeat customer told me what he'd like to do with me and some mayonnaise.
I got in a fight with the McFlurry machine. The machine won, and my uniform was destroyed.
I got a second-degree burn from the fry vat, but didn't report the injury because the other employees would just laugh at me all day and talk shit about me in Spanish (hey! I might be white and have limited second-language skills, but I know what "puta blanca" means, OK?!)
All the girls there (we're talking ages 16-22) were pregnant or already mothers, except me of course.
Trash duty. Need I say more? Fast food joints have the most atrocious smelling refuse. Guh.
Only benefit: free Chicken McNuggets.

hmm, jobs that suck
for me it would be the retail places i've worked
JC Penneys (not good) and Sears (an absolute horror)- i'll tell you about the worst one, a real horror story
my first job Sears was terrible.
crap pay- crap bosses- crap store
the store manager and the security guy sat on their butts all day (on the rare occasion that they showed up) down in the food court on the opposite end of the mall from the store
managers would actually get pissed if they had to help customers, esp. this one who just wanted to stroll around hardware lazily all day. the store manager would also be rude to customers when they had complaints or issues of some sort- bitching at them and what not.
in the morning after the bosses opened the door they would ALL leave and go down to the food court for 20-30 minutes for a break, even though they had done nothing the whole morning but sit in the store break room. this would leave the store without a manager for half an hour and to make matters worse- there were usually only 5 or so associates to run the clothing section, jewelry, housewares, bedding, shoes, appliances, electronics, the outdoors section, exercise equipment, and hardware- oh, the joys of being under-staffed (but i guess we had no business so it didn't matter)
the appliance people also sold delivery and instillation options to customers and all laughed in the mornings during store meetings- with the bosses- because Sears had nobody to actually install and they had no truck for a time to deliver. so basically the store was stealing money from the customers.
they also tried to screw over employees by making rules for when the employee discount could be used. like they decided you can only use it if you pay with a Sears card or cash. if you use your debit card, a check, or another credit card you forfeit your discount. if you use a store coupon you forfeit your discount. if you price match you forfeit your discount, etc.
when i started working there i basically found out that the whole store was dishonest and a total sham. most people in town hate it and i don't even know how it stays open-i guess because of the Craftsmen section maybe. (there are lots of farmers and ranchers who come into town and buy tools there). plus, after i quit that terrible place i found out that it had been sued a lot in town and that Sears had no district manager for that region, which i guess explains why the store was being allowed to carry on that way. i think its corrupt at the top though- in fact i'm sure it is. the stored gets sued a lot nationally too for poor business practices.
needless to say i never shop in Sears and if you live near one don't work there.

My first job started just last week, and I'm a custom framer in a frame shop. It's a great job with great people, and most of the "guests", as we call them in Jo Ann's, are nice as well. I mean, how many scrapbooking old ladies are that mean? It's a great place to work, and I'm not being overworked, which is nice. My first paycheck was today, and I was pretty excited.

Yep, Jo Ann's Fabric. Really though, the Custom Framing is a separate shop within it, which is nice, since we have better hours, etc. It's a really fun job, and a great creative trade! Thanks for commenting. ; )

yeah heavymetalmachine, i don't think i could ever work at a fast food place, that's like a regular resturant but way worse.
has anyone seen wating, i love that movie, it is hilarous, and it will make you never want to eat in a resturant again, unless you are super nice to the people there.
sears sounds bad czarina, i have never worked retail, but i don't think i could.
a frame shop sounds neat, i would love to work in a crafty place, i love crafts.
right now i have a dream of opening my own book store, but i don't think i could even eke out a living on that around here, books don't go over real well. but i geuss that is why they call it a dream.

Wasn't a first job, but a lame hostessing job at a swanky restaurant (you know, one of those ones where it pays to be fake? The kind of place where me, a little punk rocker at heart, died a little every day I worked.)
Yeah, well, it was well beyond closing time, but who decides to stroll up to the bar with two old floozies on his arms but Michael Bolton. My fellow hostess, an older cougar herself, was just fawning over the cad, and I just wanted to go home and sleep. The jerk dawdled in there for another HOUR and nobody had the balls to make him leave. UGH MICHAEL BOLTON IS LIKE THE WORST CUSTOMER EVER.
