Misunderstood Lyrics 3 Months ago
HAHAHAHA. Another thread that brought up Led Zep & the Pumpkins misunderstood lyrics made me think of this. It seems like something we can all relate to.

Here is my story. I was riding in the car of a friend and she wanted to listen to the radio. So the Song "Jet Airliner" came on and I'm singing "leave a chair and a light on, Cause its here that I've got to stay" and I'm just bopin along. Her eyes get big and she is staring straight at me with shock on her face. I'm like....what? and a little worried because she is driving the car (though I drive like this all the time with someone else in the car, I am experienced ;P)

She asks: What did you sing?

Me: Umm..."leave a chair and a light on, Cause its here that I've got to stay" ? Why?

She: Cracking up. Umm...it's Big Jet Airliner you doof!

Me: *laughing with her*. No way! HAHAH OH that's why the song is named Big Jetairliner...I wondered. *hahaha*

Ya. I'm a doof! So what about you guys.

I do have to say with the bands that I listen to I know the lyrics to the songs. At least I hope!!??!! ;P

I used to think "staying Alive" by the Bee Gees went "Ha, ha, ha, ha, staying the night, staying the night"

I was only five or something, I didn't even know the name of the song.

My friend thought that The Everlasting Gaze was "You know I'm not dead I'm just the tease inside your head."

I corrected her and told her it was "tears" not "tease."

Re:Misunderstood Lyrics 3 Months ago
well, i have one afterall. i was thinking of mentioning the pre-Gish track Snap in the songs you dislike thread, because i always thought Billy was saying "you were my homie." i have it on a bootleg cd that doesn't have the best audio and one day a while back i was listening to it trying to figure out what he was saying. it sounded like homie, which was kind of a wtf? lyric, but i figured hey, it was a crappy early track so who knows. i decided to check the lyrics at spfc before i posted tonight though just to be sure and it turns out that its "you were my only."

so no gangsta Billy i guess, haha

I think 1979 is my worst misheard song. To this day, I still don't know the whole thing off by heart, and I feel I should.

Shakedown nineteen-seventy-nine
Cool kids never had the time
On a live wire right up off the street,
You and I should meet

Dune bugs skipping like a stone
On a headlight pointed at the dome
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all

And I don't even care
To shake things/this in the moose
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest, (I used to think this line was "just where I'm gonna live", talk about lazy listening.)
To dust, I guess
Forgotten and absorbed to it all, hello

Double-crossed the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
They're the morphine city-slicker dudes down to see

We don't even care
As restless as we are
We feel [b]no hope[b] in the land of a thousand years

(I know it's "the pull" not "no hope" and "guilts" not "years", but that's what I used to think it was)

blah blhablhablaalhaba I DEFINITELY don't know the rest.

For a long time...and I mean a looong time, i seriously thought the last verse of Rocket was "I shall be brave." Even though it's "I shall be free."

On With Every Light, when he says "taking the time to do as I please," to me it sounds like "taking some time for Judas Priest."

I used to think for some stupid reason that in Ava Adore the line:
"In you I taste God" was actually
"In you I take cigars"

It makes no sense but anyhow, at least I now know what it should be.

here they are, read and learn, cause this time I AM THR ONE WHO IS RIGHT

shakedown 1979
cool kids never have the time
on a live wire
right up off the street
you and i should meet
junebug skipping like a stone
with the headlights pointed at the dawn
we were sure we'd never see an end to it all

double cross the vacant and the bored

morphine city slippin' dues
down to see
that we don't even care
as restless as we are
we feel the pull
in the land of a thousand guilts
and poured cement
lamented and assured
to the lights and towns below
faster than the speed of sound
faster than we thought we'd go
beneath the sound of hope
justine never knew the rules
hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
no apologies ever need be made
i know you better than you fake it
to see that we don't even care
to shake these zipper blues
and we don't know
just where our bones will rest
to dust i guess
forgotten and absorbed
into the earth below
the street heats the urgency of now [written: sound]
as you can see there's no one around

and yes i did get these from spfc, but i already knew them.

but i have a youtube where billy even forgets them, so don't feel to bad
