Check this out. It's already the NUMBER 1 user rated movie of all time on imdb. That's insane. The other movies on that list aint no joke either.

Only 30 minutes of the movie were shot in imax. The opening scene and the ending. The rest of the movie still looks great on an imax, but you can tell a big difference in the beginning.

How does it work on Imax? Aren't Imax films limited to 120 minutes?

Major motion pictures are not filmed in imax. They are only remastered from their original format to fit an imax screen. As robertedge said, The Dark Knight was the first major movie to actually film using an imax camera.
The July 2008 Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight features six sequences shot using IMAX technology, which the movie's press notes describe as the "first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras".
Usually imax movies are around 45-60 minutes. I'm not sure about the 120 minute thing.

Yeah, I know. The last movie I saw in Imax was Attack of the Clones, and they had to trim the movie since the Imax projectors only had enough room for 120 minute reels, but maybe things have changed since then.

I'd be pretty mad if they trimed the movie I was watching.

I think things have changed. The imax website says in 2008 they switched to a new dual digital projection system.

Re:The Dark Knight 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
I just watched it yesterday. Yes, there was already an enormous hype for this film months before it came out. Yes, it was essentially crowned the movie of the year before the first person even saw it. Yes, it is basically being viewed (in a way) as a 2 and a half hour tribute to Heath Ledger and his previously undiscovered brilliance (although I think we all knew he had it in him.) However, even with all of these advantages, this film lived up to and exceeded my expectations. No superhero movie has ever been so dark, so disturbing, so menacing and chilling. This story of good vs. evil never felt cliche, predictable, or rehashed. Christian Bale delivered yet another great performance, and the supporting cast proved to be just as impressive (although I didn't like Maggie Gyllenhal that much.)

And, yes, the signature of this film was Heath Ledger's Joker. Very rarely is it the case when a famous person dies prematurely that their work is not highlighted and perhaps exagerated. Once again, not the case here. I would dare anyone to name a superhero movie villian with more intensity, insanity, hilariously awesome sadism, and pure bone-chilling coldness. Talk about any other villian and you can say "Well this guy can fly" or "This guy can move buildings" or "This guy shoots plasma out of his ass". But the Joker was just a man (MINUS the Batsuit) who relied on his psychological superiority to control and defeat people--not his strength. Although when that's needed, he can apply that too. The Scarecrow from Batman Begins also follows this same idea (although there is no comparison). And nothing is scarier than a man who doesn't even have to throw a punch to control every gang in Gotham city and threaten life itself.

You can tell Ledger cut himself off from the world for a month to prepare the role. I had to remind myself several times throughout the movie that this was the same guy who said "I wish I knew how to quit you." He truly became The Joker. His voice, his mannerisms, thought process, and truly his mind was overtaken by this character by the end of said month. And it's actually part of the reason why he died. In my opinion, there is no denying that this is the movie of the year so far, and could very well walk away with a couple of Oscars once it's all said and done. I enjoyed it, and if every day life wasn't so god damned expensive, I might see it again. Then again, I might anyway.
