I haven't posted anything on here forever so why not randomly post something that has nothing to do with the pumpkins, hahaha.
Anyway, for those interested in music production I discovered something pretty crazy.
So today I was recording a song on my computer for a science project.
I had both a cheap microphone and iPod headphones.
Thinking I was plugging the headphones into the headphone jack, I really plugged it into the microphone jack.
Then, the headphones fell on my lap and I heard it through my computer speakers. I looked at my microphone and it wasn't plugged in.
So then I started taping on the headphones and sure enough there was the tap coming through the speakers.
Then i started screaming through the headphones and what do you know, came from the speakers.
To make a long story short, iPod headphones can be used as microphones!

That is some useful info...very cool..how did it sound? Was there a distort or did the sound come out as usual? HEHE sorry can't help with the goofy questions!

haha no sadly i never ate the pepper, the idea just kindof died off...
anyway, the quality wasnt bad. I mean, obviously not studio quality, but it sounded like any other simple microphone someone would by for there computer

Good thing...about the pepper that is..otherwise you just may have died off yourself, not a good thing..nope not at all.
Hmm...I wonder if it could be tweaked a bit to make unique sounds....

That's because a microphones are designed to do the opposite of a what a speaker does.
A signal makes the speakers vibrate, producing a sound.
A sound makes a microphone vibrate, producing a signal.
Coincidentally, I tried this just for fun the other day when I was testing some lyrics for recording a track. It sounded terrible and muffled.

This is also true. When I did it, it was with some meaty studio headphones that cover your ears. Probably why it sounded muffled.

Both albums are amazing...I bought the whole Sonic Youth Discography now, all 17+ albums...they're all amazing...what a band!!!
The diamond sea is even more brilliant on the uncut version from their rarities collection destroyed room...

True true! Diamand Sea is absoulutely beautiful in word and sound, and Washing Machine is right up there with Daydream Nation for me! Thanks Muzzle for the reminder because of it I'm actually listening to Diamond Sea as I type!

lucky bum i still need to gather all of SY. i have spent so much time gathering the SP up 'til now, but they are next for sure. i love everything i have heard so far though. that band kicks ass.

back on topic: i already knew about this. before i had a nice digital recorder i used to put my ipod head phones into my acoustic guitar's sound hole and record straight to my computer.
