2 natural disasters I remember in my lifetime...the Ohio/Licking river floods of the summer of 1997. The road to my grandma's house was totally flooded out. Her house was way out of the flood range, but the road there wasn't. I was actually going down to visit her and check out the flood waters at the moment the water peaked at its highest levels. I parked and walked up to the edge of the water (out in the middle of an intersection) to take some photos. I could see this little gas/service station with nothing but the tip of its roof sticking out of the water. That was really weird to see. I back-tracked and went in a back road to go see gram and spent about a half hour at her house then took off....I was literally the last car that got back out. The cop parked across the road right after I passed him....I guess I would have been stuck at her house if I'd stayed another minute or two...

And then the ice storm in February of 2003....we had inches of ice on everything. We woke up on a Sunday morning to a cold house and the eerie sound of huge tree branches snapping and crashing to the ground all around our house. There were tons of huge old trees on our street and everybody was afraid of them cracking under the weight of the ice then falling on their houses. We lost power that Saturday overnight and didn't get it back until about 10 PM the next Friday. The whole city looked like a bomb had hit it....debris everywhere and no power in over half of town (which is a pretty big town). We stayed with one of my co-workers but had to shut off our water so the pipes wouldn't freeze...and my wife's beta fish froze to death....

Poor fishy!

I have an insurance adjuster appointment tomorrow at 1:00. I'm slightly nervous. They said they are gonna cut me a check on site...hope that's true.
