I had this theory, that if you want one of the songs to progress, or kill off a high scored song (or both) you need to vote for the one with the least votes, and kill off the one you dislike most.

That way it keeps your favourite song in the running longer, although it doesn't work for people like me who's favourite song has the least votes...
