I put my Zune on random today, and inevitably, a few Pumpkins songs popped up. Among them, "Jellybelly." It's not on the top of my list, but it's a song that each time I hear it, I get super stoked and wonder, "Where ya been, Jellybelly? You're like an old friend I always have a great time with on the few occasions we get together."

Which brought me to an idea for a game/discussion:

I'll start by naming a Pumpkins song. The next person will say why they think it's overrated or underrated, and then post a new song for the next person to rate as over/underrated. Other posters are more than welcome to contend/agree with that poster's opinion, but only the first responder to a song can recommend a new song.

Shall we then? I'll begin.

sounds fun. Jellybelly is under-rated. should have been a radio single.

Spiteface is underrated. Its guitar riff is great.

On the subject of Spiteface; i actually think this song is overrated. Its become like this ridiculous cult song among pumpkins fans and kind of a joke, like when Billy teased it on one of the residecy shows for a laugh and then in some video interview the fans were all talking about it as if it was like James appearing at a show or something. I mean sure its a cool riff, but it only really stands out because its quite uncharacteristic for a pumpkins riff and I expect Billy could make up a load of riffs like that if he wanted. Dont get me wrong, I think its a good song, but still its overrated.

apples + oranjes

Apples+Oranjes is a cool song, but not my favorite. I don't know whether to call it overrated or underrated. I guess as I don't think its the best track off of Adore I will go with overrated.

All of Adore is really underrated by most in general I think(excluding us more SP obsessed types of course ).

As for STP (track 5, Mashed Potatoes disc 2), it must be underrated as it appears unknown. I think it kicks ass. It has some great riffs. Check it out why don't you.

How about TEITBITE's softer companion TBITEITB.

TBITEITB is a great, quite underrated song... i actually like it more than TEITBITE to be honest

So what do you all think of Drown? Should they have put it on Siamese Dream? Or was it best left as it was?

Drown is Underrated (I sense a pattern developing in this game )

One of my top SP tunes of all time.
I'm sure Gish would have sold a bucket load more if this was a single from the album.

But then again I can easily recommend the song to the average "buys just the albums" fan who hasnt heard it.

Death From Above

underrated, i get chills every time the drums come in and the ending is priceless with the chorus repeating. I thought drown should be pisces iscariot, it would have fit perfect, i just don't think it would sound right on siamese dream.

Death from above is horribly OVER-rated. It's one of (if not the) worst songs of the zeitgeist era.

Age of Innosence is incredibly UNDER-rated. Probably the 2nd best song on Machina (next to stand inside your love)

By Starlight is a great one, kind of underrated.

One that I think is way overrated is Superchrist, I just don't like it! And the new live Heavy Metal Machine, ugh. I miss gossamer.

Oh, man, Ghostchild, you're killing me. Death From Above is probably my favorite or second fave of the Zeitgeist era!

7 Shades ... hmmmm. Ask me on different days. Today, it's overrated. Cool riff, totally reminds me of a Mellon Collie toss-off, but the melody is lacking.
