No more Pumpkins CDs... :( 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I agree with Billy that the music industry must make a change, and I go along with the idea that releasing blocks of songs may be an overall better idea than releasing CDs into stores...

But who else is going to miss that feeling of listening to a whole album of new Pumpkins music?? They said they'll probably release 6 or 8 songs at a time, but that's certainly not the length of a full album. It just won't be the same...

Respond if you like. I've been awake waaayyy too long, so I'm not even sure how much sense this message of mine is making...

Oh I still like getting CDs. In fact, I picked up the Zero single for $2 USED the other. Much to my dismay, it was the TAFH version, which I already technically have (although it's sealed by TAFH boxset that I bought in 1997). I was hoping it would be the original Zero single with the booklet like my brother has.

At first I was a bit cautious about the idea, but I'm all for it now.

I think it could give us some interesting results and concepts.

Yeah, I think it would be cool if each block of new songs carried on individual concepts and themes and sounds (as long as they don't get so political again, haha).

I hope that since they would release less songs at a time, we'll receive new music much quicker. But still, it won't be quite the same...

You're right. I'm looking forward to it as well. I guess I'm just feeling a bit nostalgic and "melancholy", heh.

But I'll take any piece of work, as long as Mr. William Corgan is involved. The man's music has been a glowing light in my world ever since I became interested in music in general.

I'm on board. Who knows you may like this new format even better.

And I personally think, there will be physical releases of new Pumpkins material, however the distribution method may be different.

The best way to get the music to the largest number of people cost effectively and in the manner the artist wants. It would be the best way to get all of the music a person wanted out to an audience that wants the end product with no need to wait for production of a physical item (CD,Cassette...) or even having to wait for creative to come up with appropriate artwork. Therfore having the ability to release something new every few months or sooner or later depending.

In my mind it is the way of the future. Though I have to say I will miss being able to hold the physical incarnation in my little hands!

I'm all for digital distrubution, especially if they'll end up releasing a physical copy anyway, like American Gothic.

I much prefer CDs, for the artwork. Plus then you get the exact songs the artist wanted on there and in the order they wanted. You wouldn't by a paining and then paint over a bit the artist did because you'd prefer it another way now would you? :P

Plus, lots of bands do great songs - there are so many great songs out there that it's hard to say there's anything special about them. But great albums come around much less often and I really appreciate them when they do.

It'd be sad to see no more Pumpkins albums and no more Pumpkins CDs, but as long as they're still making music...

Good Points Epitome.

If the artist was releasing the tracks they would have total control over the release, no bowing down to the talking heads. So it would be a pure artist release, and who is to say that it could not be released as a full album, just online. There could be artwork. The track listings could be ordered as the artist wanted. So that the listener could get the effect or be affected in the way the artist intended. But then for the people that wish to paint over the work of another, it can become more personal to them as well. By ordering the track listing, as well as creating their own art.

I remember making mix tapes and creating the artwork by using different photos and images from magazines and things. Back in the day.

True there are very few albums that are amazing all the way around and those that are are treasures to behold. Though I think songs can be special and hold special meaning individualy and can stand completely alone from an album. So I wouldn't myself discount songs in and of themselves. But true a brilliant album is much harder to come by than a brilliant song. That blending of all the pieces to make one bright shining piece of musical history is not an easy formula.

I do like seeing, touching and fully taking in the physical case, paper & cd though.

Yeah, individual songs can be very special - a lot of Pumpkins songs are special to me, regardless of the album. What I meant was there are so many songs that sound great, that because there are so many, it doesn't seem that special. If you get what I mean there, I might not be explaining it well.

I totally agree with your last sentence. And whilst it's true you could download a "booklet" in PDF format, with pictures and lyrics, it just wouldn't be the same.

I'm reassured by new bands who aren't on record labels but are still putting out CDs, not just selling digital versions of their music (which would be cheaper for them). Their bands are born in the digital age, but at their own expense they still want to put albums out on CD

I think I get what you are saying about songs, that they just kind of get lost in the sea of great songs.

Agree that a downloaded PDF is completely different the paper weight and feel, the colors, the size would all differ. But that is not to say that it isn't an interesting idea.

I hear you about new bands that put out a physical release unsigned. It shows that they believe enough in themselves and their music to do that. The world is pretty open for expantion for a seasoned artist.

I wonder what the true new way of distribution in the far far off furture will be. (sorry don't answer that! *laugh* I didn't mean to get off topic..but just thinking out loud)
