very nice. It doesn't flow as well as the pumpkins version, but this is probably the best cover on thepumpkins.net
great job!!!

this was really great! genuine effort put into it!! what did your teacher think??
wow!!!
written by God , June 14, 2007
that was really good guys. its like the way the pumpkins played it in 2000. I agree with spaceboy. its the best cover on this site. you better have got an A on this!!!
final grade

I did in fact get an A. Patrick (vocals) and I did this at the last minute when my scheduled band did not show up. The teacher thought it was awesome. we played it a few times in class and he was always singing along.
Sweet

Great job.
I actually listened to the entire song, which is rare for me to do when it comes to covers. I love the sustained distortion sound at the end.
my critique
written by prequarius , June 14, 2007
i agree this was a great cover, greatly mixed, greatly played, but i feel it was too many things clashing together on this one. the drums were too synthetic, which isn't a bad thing. i just felt that it seemed to take away from the clean guitar and the voice. it almost made it seem like it was going to take a turn for an electronic-pop feel, dare i say "techno".

i'm not bashing this artist (or the whole group?) i'm not implying that this is horrible, because i've listened to it like 5 times writing this. it's terrific, amazing even! i just think the deep base for the drums is what kind of throws it off for me. had i been the professor, i would have still given you an "A" but would have questioned the approach.

all in all, a very great recording/mixing job and a great take on a pumpkins classic. it feels weird calling 1979 classic, or am i (we) just getting old?

Not too shabby. I had a major cold the day we recorded this. I remember being woken up at 2:00am to come record the vocal take and lay the acoustic guitars down for this project. Regardless, I feel a fine final product emerged from our efforts. A
WHAT STATION?? This is incredible!! Has it received any airplay? If not, why not??!!

VERY nice, guys! Definitely the best cover on here. Brilliant. Corgan would be proud... heck of a lot better than the myspace pumpkins covers.
GREAT COVER!

This is by far the BEST cover I have ever heard of the SP.
AWSOME!

Thanks for the positive feedback on our shot at "1979". Coming from some of the most dedicated fans in the world...this means a lot. In my experience it's easy and fun to cover these songs because Billy has consistantly written provacative music for us all these years. Mike and I skipped our high school finals back in 2000 to catch the band up at Purdue (a four hour drive) and weren't disappointed. Billy wrote the soundtrack to many of our lives and covering his music is our way of saying thanks.
I LOVE THIS SONG!
written by Guest , June 18, 2007
This song is part of my life. When I saw it posted as a cover I thought who in their right mind would cover this song or any Pumpkin song? I was shocked that not only could this song be covered and so well but I actually liked it as much as when I heard it for the first time by TSP. That had only happened once in my 26 yrs. GREAT job dudes. Do ya have more? Looking daily for more from you guys.

is this on a tribute album?
written by orbital58 , June 18, 2007
No. This is the first time that we have made it availble to any community outside our close friends and the initial project. I do have a cover on Act4's Ghost Children 2 though (diff vocalist), currently being played at www.myspace.com/act4music

good job

What a cool cover of a great song. Nice vocals.
Pleasantly surprised
written by Sandoz , June 19, 2007
Much better than that bullshit on myspace. That shit's pissing me off. Your version at least has some soul and the acoustic guitar is cool.
that's for sure
written by Guest , June 19, 2007
Don't know who this dude is singing but he has some of the best vocals I have ever heard and this cover is awsome. I agree about the myspace. PURE BULLSHIT. I hope this dude gets lots of hits and is heard. I read his entry above and he sounded like a nice guy as well.

Good news for all of you guys supporting my and Mike's shot at "1979". We've been in contact via our cells and there's a good chance we're going to get another tune out to you folks in the upcoming weeks. We live in different cities now but are currently discussing our next musical adventure. Mike discribed it as being 'ala Postal Service' since we'll be sending our sound files back and forth to each other on the web. Not ready to tell you guys which song's waiting in the works...but here's our first hint. Any James fans out there?
It needs....
written by Guest , June 19, 2007
a rippin ass guitar solo for the outro but other than that it is pretty damn good. I know just the person to lay the solo down. You do too.
Any James fans out there...
written by PistolPete , June 20, 2007
I hope you cover "Go." It's an amazing song and one of my favorites. It would sound pretty sweet done ala Postal Service. Just food for thought.
YES!
written by Guest , June 20, 2007
There are lots of that thought James was a great talent. ANY James song would be cool.
I remember....

When you all did this as well and I was woken up to go sit for 4 hours in the wee morning before a full load of classes that day. However, it was well worth it to sit and watch my 2 best friends in the studio. I love you both. I hadn't listened to this in a long long time....and the re-listen was still as great as the first time I heard it completed. I can't wait to hear what's next guys! smilies/grin.gif
when does the mail run?
written by Guest , June 20, 2007
hey, how long will it be before we hear more from you? Just wondering, where are you guys from? Can't tell by the vocals. Which I guess is good. Can't get this song out of my head and I'm driving my wife crazy listening to it.

We're currently recording a new track for you folks. It should be up within a week or so. Since our 1979 recording was done "on the fly," (in about 2 hours) we're spending a bit more time on our current project. However, rest easy knowing we haven't forgotten about the good vibes everyone has given us. We feed off of it and the positive remarks will show in our new track. 1979 was recorded at Middle Tennessee State University while we both attended. We're originally from Kentucky (unofficial music Meca of the Universe). I'm glad you can't get the song out of your head, it beats MANY other "stuck in head' options. My wife has lost many hours of time with me due to my musical addictions. I'm strung out on several instruments currently.

We're way ahead of schedule! Mike worked his butt off tracking drums and acoustic guitars yesterday and I spend the majority of today (the greatest day I've ever known) tracking vocals, bass and electric guitar. We're both totally stoked with the results! Final product coming soon!

I prefer the drums and vocals in this one over the original. Good job.

Does your band perform on the road? This is a really great cover and I'm like the rest of the posters here....this rules!

written by Guest , June 25, 2007
????,
NO, we're not on the road. That's merely a forgotten dream by this point in time. We're both recent college grads and "paying our dues" in a working world. The music business is a tough game to play and while catching a musical break would be well welcomed, it has yet to materialize. We're just two dudes that love to play music more than anything else...and happen to be fluent in a shit load of instruments and recording technologies. I personally love the recording studio over the live gig...more room for error and I love overdubbing vocal tracks ala Freddy Mercury. All you guys are great for continually supporting our Pumpkins covers...I love the internet!
a memory
written by Guest , June 26, 2007
I just discovered this site from a friends room mate. I had an older brother that loved TSP and remember hearing this song. This is much better than I remember it sounding. Nice!
You should keep at it and not forget your dreams. I read the above post.
very good

LETTERMAN?
written by Guest , June 28, 2007
You guys would be better on LETTERMAN!

written by Guest , June 28, 2007
Yikes! Thanks for the complement but I think I'll leave that one to TSP. Don't forget they're the reason why we even have this forum to share our versions of their music. Plus, Billy's great live! Crazy thought though...perhaps an opening spot at one of their shows would work. As Stephen Tyler of Aerosmith once said...dream on.
I made a wrong turn
written by Guest , June 29, 2007
Found this site on accident....I thought this was the official web site. However after I got here, I checked out some covers. This is by far the best cover song here. Sometimes a worng turn ain't so bad! Sweet song, good cover.
