Music Update There are some new bits of info to pass along to those wondering about the release of new Smashing Pumpkins material.
1) The new Smashing Pumpkins album will be a "multi-release", "multi-year" concept project. This hints back to earlier connotations suggested by Jimmy Chamberlin when he said the band would start releasing blocks of songs instead of CDs.
2) The new single "G.L.O.W." is not connected to the new multi-release album, but is instead a standalone single similar to Superchrist. It may be released on the next version of the Guitar Hero franchise of video games. The single is still scheduled to be released in September.
3) A new audio CD may be released as an accompanying soundtrack to the Fillmore DVD that's due out by the end of the year. This CD would be similar to what Earphoria was to Vieuphoria.
4) SmashingPumpkins.com has raised the notion on whether the suit brought up by James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky against Virgin Records will have an effect on the release of the Pre-Gish/Gish boxset, but it's still too early to know.
5) More singles like G.L.O.W. may be released in the future, but these singles may or may not be related to the new multi-release album.
Are you confused yet?
